Last checked: October 26, 2026 · Facts from Rockstar and major outlets, sources at the bottom

Quick answer

Pre-load on November 12 so you can play at midnight, make sure you have a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, know that it's a game for adults, and don't fall for "free GTA 6" scams.

1. It's a game for grown-ups

The store listings show content descriptors including blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, strong sexual content, nudity and drug use, plus in-game purchases. If you're buying for a teen, check the official age rating on your console's store first.

2. It launches as a single-player game

Rockstar calls GTA VI "a single-player experience." Nothing about online multiplayer for GTA VI has been announced as part of the launch, so don't buy it expecting to play online with friends on day one.

3. Get your console and storage ready

4. Know when it unlocks

In the US, midnight Eastern on November 19 (9 p.m. Pacific on the 18th). Full release details.

5. Watch out for the free GTA+ month

Digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, but it renews at the regular price until you cancel. Put a reminder in your calendar.

6. Avoid spoilers, leaks and scams

7. New to GTA? A few basics

GTA games are open worlds: there's a main story with missions, and between them you can roam, drive, and take on side activities. Breaking the law raises a "wanted level" (shown as stars) and the police come after you; the Extended Look showed up to six stars. You'll switch between Lucia and Jason. Take your time: the story isn't going anywhere.
