GTA 6 on PS5 or Xbox: which version should you get?

Quick answer

Play it on the console you already own. It's the same game and story on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you're buying a console just for GTA 6, PS5 has a few extra controller and audio features that Sony and Rockstar have promoted, and the PS5 Pro gets an enhanced version.

Which consoles can play GTA 6?

What's special about the PS5 version?

Rockstar's site says GTA VI "plays best on PlayStation 5," and a joint Sony and Rockstar post lists these PS5 features:

DualSense haptic feedback (detailed vibration) and adaptive triggers (the triggers push back).
Sounds from the controller's built-in speaker.
Tempest 3D AudioTech for positional sound.
The PS5's fast SSD for "near-instant" loading.

The PlayStation Store also marks the game "PS5 Pro Enhanced."

What about Xbox?

The Xbox Series X|S version is the same game at the same price, with the same pre-order bonus. Both Xbox Series X and the cheaper Series S are supported.

What's still unknown

Not confirmed yet:

Frame rate (30 or 60 fps) and resolution on any console.
What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" actually improves.
Exact download size.

Own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S? Buy it there; your friends list matters more than small tech differences.
Buying new and torn? PS5 has the extra promoted features. PS5 Pro if you want the enhanced version and the budget allows.
Still on PS4 or Xbox One? You'll need to upgrade.
