Last checked: October 27, 2026 · Facts from Rockstar, the console makers and major outlets, sources at the bottom
At launch, the boxed GTA VI contains a download code, not a disc. So physical and digital both mean downloading the full game. Buy digital if you want the free GTA+ month and pre-load with no fuss. Buy the box if you're gifting it or using a store gift card.
Side by side
| Digital | Boxed (code in a box) | |
|---|---|---|
| Disc included | — | No, a download code |
| Download required | Yes | Yes |
| Pre-load from Nov 12 | Yes | Yes, once you redeem the code (box on sale Nov 12) |
| 1 month of GTA+ | Yes (digital pre-orders) | Not listed |
| Vintage Vice City Pack (before Nov 20) | Yes | Yes, while supplies last |
Watch out: region
Retailers have warned the codes are region-specific. Buy the box in the same country your console account is set to.
Will there be a disc later?
Reports conflict and Rockstar hasn't confirmed a disc release date, so we're not guessing. We'll update this when there's an official answer.
