Make some room

How much storage does GTA 6 need?

Not announced yet. Here's how to get ready anyway.

Quick answer

Not announced yet. As of October 27, 2026, Rockstar, Sony and Microsoft haven't published an official GTA VI file size. Big numbers going around social media come from leaks or guesses, not Rockstar. The exact size should show on the store once pre-loading opens on November 12.

Why we're not giving you a number

Some sites quote a size from a leaked development build. That isn't the size of the game you'll download, and GVIDE doesn't report leaks as fact. We'll update this page as soon as the PlayStation or Xbox store lists the real size.

How to free up space on PS5

  1. Go to Settings > Storage to see what's using space.
  2. Delete games you aren't playing. Your saves are kept separately, and you can re-download games you own.
  3. Move PS5 games you've finished to a USB extended storage drive. PS5 games can't be played from USB, so GTA VI itself must live on the internal SSD.
  4. Need more? PS5 supports adding an M.2 SSD, and PS5 games can run from it.

How to free up space on Xbox Series X|S

  1. Open My games & apps > Manage to see storage per game.
  2. Uninstall games you aren't playing, or move them to a USB drive.
  3. Series X|S optimized games must run from internal storage or an official expansion card, so keep room there for GTA VI. Series S owners have less internal space, so start early.

Quick FAQ

What is the GTA 6 file size?

Rockstar hasn't announced it. Treat any number you see before the stores list it as unofficial.

Can I install GTA 6 on an external drive?

You can store it on USB, but on PS5 it must run from internal storage or an M.2 SSD, and on Xbox Series X|S from internal storage or an expansion card.

Does the physical copy save download space?

No. At launch the box contains a download code, not a disc, so you download the full game either way.

When will we know the size?

Most likely when pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026, when the console stores show the download.
