How to pre-load GTA 6 on PS5: step-by-step (pre-load opens Nov 12)

Quick answer

Pre-order the digital version on the PlayStation Store (or redeem a boxed code). From November 12, 2026 it can download early. Turn on automatic download for the pre-order, switch on Stay Connected to the Internet in rest mode, and leave your PS5 in rest mode overnight.

Step by step

Own it digitally. Pre-order GTA VI on the PlayStation Store, or buy the boxed version (on sale November 12) and redeem its code. The box holds a code, not a disc, so you download it either way.
Find it in your Game Library. Open Game Library and select the pre-ordered game. PlayStation says you'll see a countdown timer to release.
Tick the automatic download box. Select the countdown timer and check the box to download the game automatically when pre-loading opens.
Let rest mode do the work. In Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, turn on Stay Connected to the Internet, and make sure automatic downloads are switched on.
Free up space before November 12. Rockstar hasn't announced the size yet (see how much storage GTA 6 needs).
Check on November 12. Open the game's page in your library and confirm it's downloading. If not, start the download manually.

You still can't play before the official unlock. See what time GTA 6 unlocks in your time zone.
